Three Versions of Guangzhou

The ‘Three Versions of Guangzhou’ is not just series of aerially taken photos in the conventional sense. It represents the attempt of the photographer to show different parts of Guangzhou in image, namely the Guangzhou in Small Lanes, the Old Guangzhou and the New Guangzhou. The Guangzhou in Small Lines is presented by the pictures of villages surround by the city and the dragon boat racing in the narrow river. In comparison to that, the Old Guangzhou is shown by the Aiqun Hotel, the Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Memorial Hall, whereas the New Guangzhou is embodied by the Canton Tower standing up from the ground, the ready to go high-speed train and the busy Nansha Free Trade Zone. The development of a city will inevitably break some traditions. With the reconstruction and demolition of the old city, new blocks will certainly take shape and new images will surely form. Yet it is essential to keep memories of the city and not to let go of the homesickness.
