Exhibition on Collected Works
Foreword
Exhibition on Collected Works is a key part of the Shenzhen International Photography Exhibition which is professional, academic, exemplar, and of high standard.
The 7th Shenzhen International Photography Exhibition features 16 invitational exhibitions and 2 special exhibitions.
The artistic impact of the photographers on invitation reaches high and far in documentary photography, art photography, conceptual photography and beyond. Themed “City·Beat”, this exhibition reflects the “changes of the times, China’s progress, and the voice of people”, providing a multi-faceted vivid picture of the past, present, and future with realistic images, to showcase the confidence of the Chinese in embarking on a new journey and building a new era, as well as their faith in pursuing and fulfilling their dreams.
Li Shufeng, the curator of the exhibition, has handpicked A Scroll of Beijing (Li Jiangshu), China Along the Grand Canal (Cheng Xu), Wenzhou Chronicles (Xiao Yunji), and Graceful Vigor (Fu Zengkai) to highlight the theme of “City·Beat”, and juxtapose differences via time, position, and composition of photography, organizing a complementary and reflective harmony. The works of Li Jiangshu resonate with the rhythm of history in relics and cultural traces; Cheng Xu presents a comprehensive display of the interaction between nature and society with his photos tracing the grand canal; Xiao Yunji’s work recounts Wenzhou’s development since the 1980s; Fu Zengkai takes on a modern and youthful vibe to rebuild the urban rhythm with unique visuals.
Curated by Zhao Qing, Macao Today by Kuok Keng Man and Wong Meng Fai outlines the progress across Macao’s economy and society, and portrays the only unchanging patriotic heart of the Macao people; Gong Xinping’s Construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge Underway captures the spectacular moments of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge from multiple angles, providing an authentic and objective visual record of this world-class mega project, where the rhythm of the times resounds with a strong beat; Wang Wenduo’s Shenzhen Notes: Keeping Pace with the Ever-changing Times uses light, shadow and emotion to capture the unique “Shenzhen beats”.
There are also Zhan Hui’s Urban Variations curated by Song Gangming, Zhu Rongyuan’s Objects and Order curated by Yang Yong, Ma Sen’s Mirror Modern curated by Liu Can, Chen Fu’s Aerial View of Shenzhen: a Blink of an Eye curated by Zhang Weiqing, and Qiu Huo’s Symphony of the City curated by Wei Yuming. With excellent photography skills, sophisticated aesthetics, rich culture, and profound thoughts, these works have recorded different cities in multiple dimensions, perspectives, and scenarios. The impressive diversity allows the audience a glimpse into the experiment and exploration of local photographers with different approaches, and direct the focus on the important moments during the new era of Chinese modernization.
The exhibition gathers top-quality works which integrate the art of photography with the topics of the times. It is our sincere hope that the ingenuity and insights would inspire your thoughts about urbanization, environmental protection, and the relationship between human and city, as well as your artistic experiment and creativity.
